Trimming off rounded ends

Post by Phil »

Recently I was working on a model where I wanted the component to have squared off ends. The attached screen shot shows what I am talking about. I used the create shape with a rounded profile to start but that created the rounded ends. I used the clear working model inside selected vectors tool to trim off the ends using a rectangle.
I know this shape can be created with the two rail sweep but this is very easy and leads to other possibilities. Any shape can be used to contour the ends.
The knob shape was created with a domed circled, then I drew an ellipse and arrayed the ellipse twelve times and used the twelve ellipses to trim arcs from the perimeter of the domed circle.

OK now I'm just having fun playing with a new technique. I copied the array of ellipses and scaled them twice, then I used the selected ellipses to make cutouts in the face of the knob.
