Removing raised text from purchased STL

Hello all,

I have a purchased STL file that included raised text with very thin serif and the detail gets lost while carving. I'd like to remove the text down to the curved ribbon area and replace with a v-carved text. I've accomplished this in the past on flat consistent areas by cropping with a vector, remove area inside, and using that vector to create a new shape the height of the original. In this case I have a curved ribbon that is recessed and is proving hard to replicate the base shape. Any suggestions? I've thought about using another program outside of Aspire like some editing software, or ZBrush (which I don't own currently). I'd love to see a cloning brush included in Version 10 like the one is Corel Draw or Photoshop Hint, Hint.

If the STL file isn't copy protected would you mind posting it?

Did you try using the "Smooth" sculpting tool set to "Lower?"

It is a purchased file but I will try to capture an appropriate image of the area.

I've tried the Scuplting tool at various "Strengths" with limited success. Trying to keep it all in Aspire but from some of the videos I've looked at some editing software may work. Looks like you can "paint" the surfaces you want to remove and it back-fills with a completed mesh. Going to give it a try at least.
