Transitioning from ArtCam to Aspire

Postby xoneeleven » Wed Mar 14, 2018 5:35 pm

Hello All,
We have been using VCarve along side ArtCam, and have recently moved to Aspire as our primary modeling and carving platform.
So, we are in the process of learning the Aspire interface.

Here is the issue:

We have a bitmap that is B&W and import it into Aspire for the purpose of creating a model with it.
The bitmap has black portions that we want to be raised details (instead of recessed).

In Artcam, there was an option to reverse the details (ex: making the dark colors raised details, instead of recessed)
Is there an option to reverse dark colors, which default to recessed details, and make them raised details?

Thanks...

Hello,

In the modeling tab, use the eagle icon to create component from bitmap.

Then double click the component in the component tree to open the component properties dialog. Change the combine mode.

It's a good idea to read this entry in the manual and see why it is better to use this method rather than importing the bitmap before.

Vectric manuals and video are excellent, so RTFM! :D
Best regards

Mark,

No, Aspire doesn't have a feature to invert bitmap colors.

You can change the combine mode to "Subtract" after creating the component from the bitmap to reverse high/low areas, but that can introduce some confusing issues such as portions of a model going below the modeling plane (which can be corrected by adding a negative base height).

However, since Aspire has no direct way of inverting a bitmap's colors (or grayscale in your case), it is probably easiest to just invert the bitmap colors in a photo editing program prior to importing it. Just make sure you retain the original resolution (and possibly the bitmap file type) when saving the inverted version.

Hi Mark,

If I (we) could see the actual bitmap you are using, there might be better ways of approaching the problem (such as Trace vectors and modeling). What method is most efficient and will yield the highest quality depends upon various factors. Have to see the bitmap to know, though.
