From Photo to 3-D model
For all the good little girls and boys...
A step by step instruction on how to make a 3-D model from a photograph using Aspire
It’s how I approach this type of project and each project is slightly different.
This was made in the hopes that more people will take that next step in creating models for their CNC projects.
One file has the PDF and one file has the vectors needed
If you are interested in skipping this DIY manual you can purchase the finished model at.

Re: From Photo to 3-D model
Thank you Michael for the instructions.
They look good and I want to experiment with them after the first of the year when I have a little more time.
I love the Santa and downloaded the model from your link so I could run it now before Christmas.
Thanks for that and the instructions.
Mark

Hi Michael,
Thanks for the files and the tutorial.
Can all of us lowly guys with Vcarve 8.511 desktop utilize these files or is this for Aspire only?
Sorry for the noob question.

Re: From Photo to 3-D model
The vectors will load but there aren't any modelling tools in VCarve so you won't be able to create the finished product.

Re: From Photo to 3-D model
Wow I Really appreciate this !!
Like I said in a previous thread... I purchased Aspire months ahead of the machine ((CRP48X96) which will be up soon.)
I Want to personally thank you for all you do ... Just to help others.
I am learning fast and my goal is to be able to take a picture with my camera and make a carving of the scenes. See below
You should have a you-tube channel that you could post this procedure in a 10 min version.
You would get 10,000 hits in no time at all and be ... More famous !!
Thanks Again,
Brian

Michael,
Thanks for the excellent tutorial.
Do you use a mouse or a tablet with Aspire?

Re: From Photo to 3-D model
I usually use a Wacom Tablet but for this project I made it on my laptop computer using just the touch pad..
I haven't used a mouse in years.
It fells like such an un-natural way to draw.

I'm not sure a ten minute video would be enough time to explain how I do 3-D modeling.
As for your picture, if I was making it, I would add shapes underneath the component that you made of the picture to really add depth and dimension to the model.
That's what take the most time, but what a difference the results are.
