I want to learn to model like a pro

I would love to learn to model things like a pro. I have done minor modeling, but kind of stumped on how to start this one. I drew up a box in cad and want to use it for a sign for different projects. Any ideas on which way to start this?

And have you tried working along with the tutorials ??

Okay, Great..
So, here's a really quick, down and dirty why to do something like it.
Make a box like in the 1st attached picture.
Export the model Pic #2
Re-import the model and position it as needed. Pic #3
You'll need to watch the Z Height dimension
You can recess the handle areas with another component

Works fairly well..

I was sitting eating supper tonight and I kind of thought of what you showed. but that gives me a actual box right? I'm looking for a 3D, 3 quarter view of the box component for putting on a sign. I think I need to set it up so each side is a component and use create shape in modeling. right?

Click the "Okay" button at the bottom left of the window.
Yes, it is a component.
And yes, you could make each side of the drawer a component, this is just one way,,,not the only way..

Rather than just watching them download the tutorial files & follow along, the good think about learning this way is it is easy to see when you have made a mistake
A dual monitor set up is useful for this as it allows you to run the video on one & work on the other. Other than that it just takes practice like anything else in life, lots & lots of practice if you want to get yourself up to pro level

Why cant I do this?
I take my model (pic 1.)
Export composite model as STL file (Pic 2)
Sand save triangulate (pic 3).
Re import the STL file by way of Import component or 3D model. Height of 3 inches (pic 4)
Okay and I am right back where I started with a movable model (pic 5)
What am I doing wrong?

Easy fix..
See attached picture.
Step #1 Center the model
Step #2 Set model to bottom,,,That way you get the entire model
Step #3 and the most important, click on the "Interactive Rotation" ( XYZ Axis ) and rotate as needed...

Recheck sizes , especially the Z , and click okay..

I did it! Holy crap I got it! I didn't hit the Interactive rotate and having the view in Z mode. Wow I feel good now. Thanks for all the help. Now for just putting the holes in the end. Thanks again for the help Michael

Michael - this is an extremely cool way to do this. I would likely have made some sweeps and fooled around with tilts and fades, and spent way too much time in the process. It would have come out, but not nearly as efficiently. Thanks!

Yes indeed, that is a handy method to easily and quickly create a perspective view for items of all sorts. The photos show an example of how I used that method to create the chicken feed box for a Country Farm Girl CarveBuddy model and clock project I created in December 2015. You can see I also added some subtle wood grain and nail detail on the box using Aspire's sculpting tools.
