Finish Toolpath Error?

Post by swaggs21 »

I have been doing a lot of 3D stuff lately, and have noticed what may be an error in the toolpath generation for a finish tool. If you watch the video below you will see that during a conventional cut the bit takes cuts correctly, but on the climb cut on the way back it is not cutting any material at all, and the tool is about 0.010 above the previous cut. The video really shows it at the 3:50 mark.

Is this an error or am I doing something wrong? (Most likely the latter)

Hello Chris,
I took a look at the video and it almost appears that the tool may be cutting near the midpoint of the radius of the cutters tip along the radiused corner of the part? I cannot see it real well, but that is my guess as to what is happening. Thanks for posting the video link.
Best regards,
Wes

Thanks Wes.

I sent the file and video off to Vectric a couple of months ago, if there was an error, I am sure it was on my side. I have not seen the behavior since that time.
