Don,
I don't know about this file type M, I haven't heard of that before.
But if you've opened a file or created a file and saved the file.
If you have moved or renamed the file outside of Aspire,
Then it will give you an error when attempting to open the file from the list on the left.

No I havent moved the files I closed the program last night about 9:00 and when I opened it again tonight i get the error. When you save do you just save or should I be save as something? This has happened before . Could you check one of your files from aspire and see under properties if it calls it a type M file thanks Don

Hi Don,
What version of Aspire are you using? I know the first version gets an error trying to open files created with the latest version, but I think it is error 103 or something like that. You might try opening the file with the other version and see if that works. I am not familiar with the 'type M file' you referred to either.

Hi Don,
I looked at my Aspire files and the file type is showing Text on the Custom Tab.

Wes, once again you beat me to the reply.
Mine also says text for the file type.

If your creating a new file, when you hit the save icon, Cntl+S or File then save you get a Save As prompt.

I also created a file in Aspire 1 and opened it in Aspire 2.
Saved from Aspire 2 and attempted to open in Aspire 1 and got a Code 103 message

Don,

I've read your first post a few times and are a little confused. It sounds like you are trying to open Aspire by double clicking the toolpath file. If this is the case, I don't believe that will work. Are you getting your error by double clicking the toolpath files or .crv3d files?

Toolpath files are text files, .crv3d files are not. The way my computer is set up, if I double click the toolpath file, it will open that file in a text editor. If I double click on a .crv3D file, it will open in Aspire V2.

I tried to associate a toolpath file with Aspire and got an error that it failed to import data. Nothing regarding a type M file (which I think may be a C language development file type).

Not sure if this helps, but keep us informed.

Don,

Right clicking on the file name and saying open with Aspire is an acceptable method - I'm just used to double clicking. Both achieve the same result. Just be sure you are right clicking on a .crv3d file. If you are still having problems I think we need Vectric's input on this one.

Let us know how it goes.

Tim

It sounds as though Don is trying to open the post-processed toolpaths for the machine (Anilam machines have the toolpaths saved with a .M extension).

As has been said above, only the Actual Aspire data file, the .crv3d file can be reopened in the software not the postprocessed toolpaths. To save the .crv3d file use File -Save or File - Save As

Do I have to change a default setting to get aspire to save it as a carve 3d file? Also should I be able to open the recently opened files that are shown when I open aspire. And if so How??? I,m used to auto cad and have been doing it the same way . Thanks for the feed back! Don
