Corel dxf to aspire file help needed.

Post by jrj5x5 »

Can someone please Point out what I am doing wrong with this DXF file.
I saved it in Corel draw X3 as a dfx, and imported it into aspire using the import vector feature.

In Corel the part is perfectly round ,but in aspire they look to be slightly oval.
I will attach the file.
Any pointers will be greatly appreciated
Thanks
Jim J.

I've not messed with the files but normally export from my Corel X4 to Aspire with a .eps file. Have you tried that?

Jim,
I was able to import both files.
The Clock face has a few duplicate lines and all of your Roman Numerals are "open vectors" and will have to be closed before Vcarving them.

The Gear file, the teeth vectors appear to be in a perfect circle, and "open vectors" also.

But the center hole and other vectors came in as if they were square with radius corners, As did the clock face.
These can be fixed pretty easy.
Just ask if you need help doing this.

Interesting. I have a few programs that import DXF files and only Aspire is bringing that file in as a rounded square shape rather than a circle. Sketchup brings it in more like a dodecahedron but still roughly circular while in everything else it looks like a true circle.

As others have said though EPS seems to be the best import format.

With Corel X3 I have had to convert everything to curves before I could bring it into Aspire without any distortions. Hope it helps.

Try to change hairline to 0.001 black then export to eps extension might help.
It works with mine

Tony
I would like to thank everyone that responded to my problem, once again you have all proven to me why this site is at the top of my daily read list.
Unfortunately saving a file s a EPS is not a option in my version of Corel X3.
Anyone have a work around that will not set me back the $200 cost of upgrading to X4.

My version of Corel X3 includes the option,
  • File > Export > EPS Encapsulated Postscript

As Tony said, you 'export' an .eps, dont try to 'save' it. :) something to note about Corel, even with the .eps format, which cropped up for me with VCP, but not yet with Aspire (Although I'm sure its the same), is that you may have to add in some nodes in Corel before exporting. The first time this raised its head I had a design with lots of curves, and in Corel it looked fine, but after import it looked really off, like ovals instead of circles. The solution was simply to follow the lines in Corel and add in an extra 4 or 5 nodes on each. M2c. :)

Jim, I exported your file in X3 and it looks fine to me. There are a few duplicate vectors.

Thanks for this clarification.
This did the trick for me.
Although some of the other methods worked as well.

Thanks everyone, you all make this site #1

Hi all,
I downloaded the clockface to see if I could fix it. My question is: Is there a way to eliminate the extra vector without deleting the section of line and redrawing it. I'm sure I did it the long way. any thoughts ?
