3D Inlays

Post by johnnydoughey »

I noticed in the Cut 3D Gallery section that a poster (Turtle49) was able to do a 3D plates with inlays using a V Carve Pro process. Is Aspire capable of also doing this type of work?

Thanks

The plates were 3D'd in CUT3D, but I believe the inlays were done in VCarvePro. Aspire can do anything VCP can do and MUCH more.

I haven't done on of the plates in Aspire yet, but I believe you could get it done.

I am assuming that you do not have Cut3D?
If not, I think you could still get the tool paths you need out of Aspire. Keep in mind that I set up the original plate in another 3D software that I have available to me.
The inlay work on the plate can easily be done by Aspire, the 3D may take a little more setup because I use the two sided cutting function in Cut3D to cut the plate, which Aspire does not have. You would have to work around it by setting up a "top" component and a "bottom" component to get the tool paths.

Hope this helps,
Tim

Thanks Tim...

I believe I could do both sides of a 3D object in Blender. Then, couldn't I just make a top file and a bottom file and turn the piece over, keeping the position the same and changing to the next file as long as I kept the center of the object in the center of the material? And no, I have none of the Vectric products yet. I have just finished my CNC machine and am just trying to decide which product to get... although ALL of them look like great programs...

Thanks much for your help... and fantastic work you do....

Yes, that's exactly what I would try to do. And you may be able to model it right in Aspire.

Thanks for the compliment!

Does anyone know if the inlay would work on a curve surface?

Or does it have to be flat?

Let say, you had a 1/2 of a sphere.
Could you do the inlays on the sphere?

I have been wondering the same thing. I just haven't had any time to try it. I think there will be limitations on how much curvature can be introduced in to the process. I will have to play with it when I get a few hours......
