Quite often (In fact most times) changing the diameter of the smooth tool is sufficient, but sometimes you want the effect of the larger diameter tool while going up close to an area (Such as a sharp edge on one side) which you don't want to smooth. It would be nice to be able to quickly highlight, ring, or otherwise mark small inside areas for the sculpting tools to ignore, in the same manner that with Preserve Transparency selected, they ignore everything outside the overall area.
