Changing 0,0 and snaps
Changing 0,0 and snaps
I am somewhat new to Vectric software. I own a shopbot that came with Partworks, which I'm told is almost the same as Vcarve Pro. I just purchased Aspire for its 3d relief abilities. I don't even have the Aspire software yet so maybe my question is premature. I currently find myself usually using Rhino to do most of my 2d drawing because I find it quite easy and I'm used to it. One of the function that I use quite a bit in Rhino are the Snap functions that allow you to snap to things like: end of a line, intersection of two lines, mid point of a line, near a line, snap to another point...I find these quite useful and I have not found them in my limited use of partworks....also one of my favorite features is being able to change my origin (0,0 point) and then when doing what ever you need to do recall it to its "home" position. I find this helps me when designing several parts on one piece of material. Are there provisions for this in Aspire. For my 2d work I would much rather start using one package and only use Rhino when I need to do 3d work that Aspire can't do. Any input...Thanks...Erik F.
Re: Changing 0,0 and snaps
Hello Erik,
Aspire / PartWorks / VCarve Pro do include many of the standard snapping options
and these are controllable from the Snap Setting form - F4 or Edit > Snap Options.

Re: Changing 0,0 and snaps
Anything like the origin change? Thanks for the quick reply by the way.
Re: Changing 0,0 and snaps
The XY origin for the complete working job can be moved but I guess you are
looking to swap to a local coordinate system at a user definable XY origin position,
which is not in the software. I would recommend continuing to draw / design in
Rhino if this control is required.

Re: Changing 0,0 and snaps
Is this something that might be able to go on the wish list.
Re: Changing 0,0 and snaps
It's a 'maybe' because we don't plan to turn the software into a fully
featured CAD package. The more CAD the more complicated and harder
to learn and use, which is a key factor when deciding what new features
to add.
There are lots of very good CAD products available and we don't intend
competing in this market. I hope you understand.

Re: Changing 0,0 and snaps
I totally understand as you guys seem to be very good at what you do and keeping things simple keeps me happy when using your software. I also own Visualmill standard and have owned it since version 4 (am now on version 6) and have found no reason to use it since using Partworks.
