I need some help figuring out how to have a bit go in and out on the same line, so i can use the dovetail bits.
I bought a ins-9282-kit 1/2 bet set from Vortex. I was able to add this into the tool database with no problem.
I am thinking this should be kinda like the Key Hole gadget.
thank you in advance for you help.

Re: Help with dovetails
One way: Draw the line in, draw a second segment to make a V. Use node editing to move the end point of the second segment onto the start point of the first segment.

Re: Help with dovetails
I use the polyline tool, click where I want the line to start, move to the end, click, move to the start, click (it should snap if you have smart snapping on and you can tell if you're lined up as the line will go "invisible") and then exit the tool with a right click.

Re: Help with dovetails
Because Vectric programs always provide at least three different ways to accomplish something, here is a method using the Draw Line/Polyline tool and typing in the dialog boxes. This procedure creates the line starting 1/2" off the end of the board and makes a line that goes 1 inch into the board and backs out along the same path. The datum has Zero at the lower left corner of the project.
Open the Draw Line tool Enter the starting point at 1 inch in the X, and -0.5 in the Y, and click add Enter 90 as the angle, and 1.5 as the length, then click add Now enter -90 for the angle (so we backtrack along the same path), and 1.5 for the length, and click Finish, then Close

Re: Help with dovetails
Rather than bothering with the "Angle" and "L" just use 1.5 and -1.5 in the "dx" (delta x) field.Rcnewcomb wrote:here is a method using the Draw Line/Polyline tool and typing in the dialog boxes. Re: Help with dovetails
I do key slots all the time in projects.
1. Click where you want it to start
2. Move the line the direction you want it to go
3. Stop when you've reached the length you want, click
4. Trace right back over the line you just drew and click when the cursors snaps to the beginning of your first line
Your starting node should be the first place you clicked to start your first line.
