Michael

I guess I thought it was the middle of the bit for roughing and finishing no matter what the bit type was?

I have this topic in my training lessons.....
In finishing, Ball Nose works differently that End Mill......
It's all depends on the toolpathing,,,, profile is different that pocket, is different than roughing , is different from finishing.

Can’t wait to take your class in March.

So to summarize it doesn’t look like a bug in software?

The "Over Size Cutting " is not a bug in the software.

JUst got this answer from vectric

Hello John.

On the No Zero Plane version, because there is no 3D model at the end of the bottle, the Roughing and Finishing toolpaths think it will be safe to cut out until the center of the bit is on the edge of the bottle.
With the Zero Plane in place, there is now a clear 3D Wall at the end of the bottle for the bit to respect and work with, giving you the more true carving for what you are expecting to see.

For the toolpaths themselves, consider trying the Roughing toolpath as a Z Level toolpath, and the 3D Finish as an Offset toolpath.
These may give a better toolpath result for the shapes you are carving.

I hope this helps

Best Regards
Charlotte
