Thin Plywood
Thin Plywood
First off - I do NOT need to know about Baltic Birch or Birch plywood
My question is for OTHER plywood
1/8 or 3mm thick ---- 1/4 is just a bit too thick
Cherry - Walnut - Mahogany - Teak - Maple - other woods - NOT BIRCH
I want to buy large sheets, not just hobby size.
What is large - I dunno - 48x96? 48 x 48? NOT 4"x6"
Any sources?
I plan to laser cut this stuff and make stuff out of it.
Sorry about being vague - I will post pics of stuff I do.

Re: Thin Plywood
Not sure if you'll find any.
How big are the parts? You could make your own smaller pieces, maybe 12"x12", by laminating 5 layers of veneer. You could just clamp it between some baltic birch or MDF.

Found Chesapeake Light Craft in Maryland - https://www.clcboats.com/modules/catalo ... ne-plywood. So, you may be able to find 3mm ply at some of the boat builders in New England. I have some Eastern White Cedar that came out of a boat building shop in Rhode Island but I don't have any information on them. It was purchased by a fellow who was going to rehab a sail boat and drove from Savannah to Rhode Island to get the wood. He was relocating to "Maryland" and I bought it from him at an excellent deal. Also, some of the laser equipment companies might be able to help you. Let us know what you find out.

Hey Leo,
I used to go to a place over in Providence, it was down off the backside of Federal Hill, L Sweet Lumber Co.
And then there was the place in Stoughton, Downs and Reader which I am sure you are familiar with, they had lots of sheet goods and probably can order what you want.

I will look at some of the local marine supply places. I will check out L Sweet Lumber co
I can make thin wood, but was just exploring other possibilities

Check out Woodworkers Source. They have 1/8" plywood in 20" X 30" but I;m not sure of other sizes.

See if there is a cabinet shop supplier in your area. They specialize in products like you are asking about. 1/8" ply is used a lot in cabinetry and furniture making. My local suppliers have 1/8" in all you've mentioned plus other species.

Re: Thin Plywood
You may want to check with a shop which lays up custom veneer panels for architectural millwork, they have heat presses and can make custom large sheets to your specs.

Re: Thin Plywood
Only reason I want large sheets is to get better pricing over small pieces. Usually large sheets cost less per inch than small stuff.

Re: Thin Plywood
I buy sheet stock from a specialty supplier. For me, that happens to be Industrial Plywood out of Reading PA, but there are similar operations in most geographies. Delivery is free with a $300 minimum (which is really easy to meet...) and the quality of the material is top-notch. As I believe has already been noted, this is the kind of place you want/need to do business with. Ask local cabinet shops who supplies them and then touch bases with the results to see who can best serve your needs for the kinds of product you want/need.
