I ran across this tab issue this morning and it's got me puzzled.
Reference attached file.
In toolpath Profile 1, I set tabs and no Allowance Offset in the Machine Vectors. It machines as expected.
In toolpath Profile 2, I set tabs and a -0.0625" Allowance Offset in the Machine Vectors. It again machines as expected.
In toolpath Profile 3, I set tabs and a -.125" (same as cutter diameter) Allowance Offset in the Machine Vectors. All tabs are machined out?!
As long as the cutter diameter is greater than the Allowance Offset the tabs machine as expected.
What am I missing here

Re: Tab Anomaly
Hey John,
Odd one this. I checked and an offset of -0.112 works but -0.113 and less doesn't work so it's not just the -1 * dia that is a problem.

Re: Tab Anomaly
Seems a positive Allowance Offset works just fine no matter what the value.

Re: Tab Anomaly
Well, according to Vectric Tech Support everything is working as expected.... I don't understand how that can be, but that's the reply. Apparently you can have tabs with a positive Allowance Offset as far as you want, but if you have a negative Allowance Offset that comes close to or exceeds the diameter of the cutter the software determines you don't need tabs. Why I'm not sure. Don't understand what the Allowance Offset had to do with tabs.

Re: Tab Anomaly
Theory...
I think by offsetting at (or very close to) the diameter of your Bit, you are forcing the Bit to be “out of bounds” of the tab locations. Thus, they become “invisible” to the software and are ignored.
A solution could be just to create an Offset Boundary, Create your tabs as normal, etc.

Re: Tab Anomaly
Thanks Michael, but why would they be invisible in the negative and not in the positive?
Yes I can create an offset boundary, but now I've got two vectors to keep track up instead of using the "feature" of one.
Thank goodness I don't normally use tabs, this could drive me further NUTS!!!
