Moulding toolpath with 3 d model help

Post by ohiolyons »

I'm trying to incorporate a 3d model with a moulding toolpath.

Page 216 of the manual implies it is possible. I could not find a tutorial that addresses this.

The paragraph on page 216 happens to be a repeat of page 209 which is the section immediately before the Moulding Toolpath section.

So my question is this possible or do we have a bad copy paste error in the manual?

If it is possible could you steer me to a tutorial?

Thanks in advance.

I believe the moulding tool creates a 3-D 'shape' that is not the same as a 3-D 'model.' You cannot 'project a toolpath on a 3-D model' with a moulding toolpath. I don't know about the manual or the tutorials. I could be wrong.

You can run the toolpath preview of your moulding toolpath, then use the "Create Component from Toolpath preview" feature. I don't know exactly what you are trying to accomplish, but you may want to make a profile cutout as part of the preview, delete material, THEN use the create component from preview feature (might need to add a Base Height as well...like I say, I have no idea what you are trying to make, so use your noodle as to what else may be required!).

I believe it is a documentation error. There would be some significant problems with trying to get the "machine flat regions" of the moulding toolpath to still work over a 3D shape.

Made with a Moulding toolpath for the curved shape and a concave clipart.

Depends on what you want to do. If the model is concave then yes, in some instances you can add a model. I've not figured out how to do a convex model on a Moulding toolpath.

Do you have a picture of what you're trying to do?

Thanks for confirming my suspicions.

I belong to 2 CNC user's groups (Dayton, Ohio Woodcraft and Cincinnati, Ohio Rockler) with the only common denominator being Vectric software.

I was preparing a demo generic moulding toolpath for our VCarvePro people.
As I was doing it I thought "how/can I add a 3d model to this"?
Looked in the manual and it implies that it can be done.
After numerous attempts and then printing the manual pages out I saw the section under moulding toolpath appeared to be a repeat of the previous section.

Thanks for your insights
