Adhesive for sign foam.
Adhesive for sign foam.
What is a good adhesive for sign foam? I tried Gorilla crazy glue and Gorilla wood glue without success.

Re: Adhesive for sign foam.
I have used Lords 2 part epoxy with amazing results.
Lords 2 part epoxy bonds just about anything.
I get the epoxy from McMaster.
Gorilla glue (polyurethane glue) is also very good but you have to clamp it really well
Wood glues just do not work at all

I've glued lots of HDU together using Gorilla polyurethane glue and haven't had a failure in 20+ years. What's going wrong with the glue? What's your procedure?

I'm using Gorilla wood glue. I proceed just like gluing wood- be sure the HDU is clean, apply glue and clamp.ChrisInEstes wrote:I've glued lots of HDU together using Gorilla polyurethane glue and haven't had a failure in 20+ years. What's going wrong with the glue? What's your procedure?

Re: Adhesive for sign foam.
Gorilla Wood Glue & Gorilla Glue (polyurethane) are completely different products, I don't but I would be OK using the polyurethane as Chris does or they do an epoxy which would also do. I buy most of my adhesives from a UK Company who supply the sign industry with a range of adhesives, they manufacture themselves so if I am ever unsure about bonding different materials I know I can get a straight answer from them & not some salesmans blurb
Re: Adhesive for sign foam.
What are you trying to glue it to? 3m makes really good spay adhisives in different strengths for different substrates.

Re: Adhesive for sign foam.
That's probably the issue right there. I use Gorilla Original Polyurethane glue, not the newer wood glue.Phil wrote:I'm using Gorilla wood glue. ANY wood glue will NOT work on HDU. Do NOT use wood glue, no matter who makes it.Phil wrote:I'm using Gorilla wood glue. Use the regular Gorilla Glue - the stuff that foams up - it is the Polyurethane glue.
That stuff is almost the same as the HDU itself.
Works very well when gluing HDU to HDU.
The Epoxy I mentioned is a stronger glue and bonds to anything.
I often use alupanel as a substrate.
Gorilla glue does not bond HDU to Alupanel very well, so I use Lords Epoxy.

That's actually a very good point Leo, no one has actually asked what Phil is bonding the HDU to
The main reason I use he company I do is because I can phone them, tell them what materials I want to bond & they will tell me what to use. Doing any kind of commercial work I can't afford to have stuff falling down

Hi Leo,
What Mcmaster or Lords part number do you have for the Lords epoxy?
Thank you,
Stephen R.

Re: Adhesive for sign foam.
I don't have the package any longer.
I just searched epoxy and selected the clear. The description tells you what it works on.
The brand Lords, was recommended by a local professional sign maker I know.

I was gluing HDU to HDU. I used epoxy and it worked fine. Yellow wood glue worked well also.
