Cornor Relief

Okay so I have totally forgotten how to do something, sorry. I want to cut a square out of a sheet of goods on the inside. I also want to apply a relief in the corners that allow another square to be installed in the original cutout. I have looked in all places I can think of and haven't found where I find the ability to do what I want. I've done it in the past but cannot remember how I did it. I do believe it may e a gadget but I still have no luck. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
