Bi-fold door

Post by AJF »

I've been slowly replacing the bi-fold closest doors in our house with custom ones that I design and build. This is the fourth one that I've completed. The frame is Sika spruce from Haines Alaska and the carved panels are clear red cedar from Terrace B.C. Each door has a different wildlife design on it. Lots of fun coming up with the designs.

Cool project. Several years ago I took an RV trip to Alaska and on the return trip, the water pump went out just before pulling into Watson Lake. Luckily they had a semi with a flatbed trailer they hauled me back the 300-miles to Whitehorse, Yukon. I spent the next 4-days waiting for the part to fly in. You have a beautiful town, but I never tried out the golf course there. Being cutout of the forest, I didn't want to take a chance a grizzly bear would snatch me or my ball.   I definitely seen a lot of them on the trip.

The finishing is a lot of work with a fine chisel and 180 grit sandpaper before applying the finish. Then 4 coats of Min Wax fast drying polyurethane and sanding with 220 grit between coats.
