2d view question
2d view question
Hi I want to put a single vector along the Y axis and use the same vector to control the varying depth of Z but I cant work out how to flip the 2d drawing so I can do this. Could anyone help ?

Thanks highpockets, I looked at the fluting and again couldn't work out how to bring a shaped vector I have drawn in Auto cad to control the Z height along the Y cuthighpockets wrote:Try using the Fluting Toolpath....

Hi yes I need to explain it a bit better sorry : imaging you have a 3d carving of a face on a board, I just want to carve one of the vectors along the Y or X + the 3d heights on the Z . In other words I want to draw a single vector of various heights and curves etc (the Z), and project it along the X or Y. A single vector of the 3d model.

Nope, still confused.
I'm not understanding the 3D model and what it has to do with a single vector.
A picture/sketch, something would help. Sorry to be so dense.

Don't worry John your not the only one I am not sure if the OP just wants to project a vector cut onto a 3D model or if they want to try & generate a vector from the 3D surface

I think that it is one of two possibilities that you are after.
If you already have the 3D model you can do it as follows:
Draw a straight line vector in the direction and position on the model as required.
Make sure that the model is visible in the 3D view.
Use profile on tool path with a depth of cut of 0.00 and make sure that project onto 3D model is checked.
That will give you a toolpath that follows the model in the Z direction
The other possibility is:
Make sure the model is visible
Go into the measurement tool and select model cross section.
Click a start point and an end point and the software will compute a cross section vector for that point.
That will give you a vector that follows the shape of the model at the specified point.

The "Swept Profile" a.k.a. moulding toolpath gives me a headache every time I use it.
It won't work in this case.
The only thing I can think of is model the spindle as a narrow 3D component and do a 3D finishg toolpath on it such that it only generates one line.
