Error opening a file

Post by Phil »

I'm trying to help someone with an Aspire file. When I tried to open the file he emailed to me there was an error code. 126663. What does this code mean?

Verify that he has a licensed, legal copy of Aspire.

Verify that the file was completely copied.

Hi Phil,

Contact support@vectric.com directly. They may want to look at the file to help you sort this error out.

I had the same problem some time ago, a search on the forum led me to this post.

I am getting the same error, 126663. I have read through this thread and the one referenced in a previous comment. There is a lot of talk about pirated software, but none about the error. I would like to know what the error itself signifies. Can someone please tell me what the text description of this error is? What condition throws it?

Send an email directly to Vectric support@vectric.com, along with a file that gives the error!

Thank you, Michael. Do you know if there is an error reference available to users, so that when Aspire reports an error to me, I can know what it is telling me without having to email a file to Vectric first?

I’m sorry, I don’t recall ever seeing an error reference chart.

Have you received any other numerical errors that you needed to look up?

Not yet. But I prefer to be have on hand the information I need in order to deal with one when it occurs, rather than having to contact support just to find out what the error means.

Vectric is pretty good about creating human-readable error messages, particularly when there is something the user could do to take corrective action.

From the programmer's viewpoint there are errors that they wish to capture, such as a corrupt or incomplete file, but has no action that the user can take to correct it. In my programming days I'd typically write a numeric code followed by the text "this error should never occur." There may be hundreds of numeric error codes in the programs that will never be seen by an end user. Truly the best solution is to contact Vectric with the file that is causing problems.

Thank you, Randall. Maybe a future update will provide error 126663 a more human-readable message than "Failed to open file".

Whenever I get a file that generates an error, it is invariably from a student who jerked out the thumb drive before the software was done with it, or closed/crashed the program before it was done saving the file. The file is corrupt. When I've received a file from a trial version the software states that as the reason it won't open it.
