Help with a Clipart file

Post by Gasawdust »

Carving the Open Book from clipart.
Rough pass went fine. The smoothing toolpath is a little over 364k lines of code estimated running at my current settings at a little over 6 hours from giddy up to whoa.
Using Aspir 9.5 x and Mach 3.
Went to dinner and when I got back in the shop it appears my Z shot up about 32 thousandths and the carving is now at a point where I may need to start over by adjusting the z zero.
My question. Instead of starting over from line one can I start over at a point I estimate was prior to the glitch to see if it occurs again and if so, how? I’d already carved 260k lines and estimate 200k was just prior to the glitch.

Any help appreciated.
Tom

In Mach3 move to a line prior to the issue then use the Run From Here button.

After entering the line of code to run from & hitting cycle start you will be prompter by a pop up menu which will tell you that the machine will move to the correct spot to continue, there is also a tick box to start the spindle before the move.
I don't use mach3 anymore ut use to use that feature quite bit, once I had clicked ok & the machine started to move I would then keep the mouse hovering over feed hold until I was sure there wasn't going to be a problem

I’ll run it tomorrow morning and let you know if it was a machine glitch. If not, i’ll try to post the g-code and Crvd file for help in tracing my issue.
It’s a Christmas present so I need to get it resolved quick.

Well not much luck with the originally produced toolpath so I recalculated an offset toolpath versus raster. The raster toolpath was schizophrenic in that it cut halfway up the image staring at the bottom then diverted back to the bottom for a little clean up then went half way up the image to resume cutting. That’s where the problem occurred.
Recut the offset tp and all was fine.
Thanks for the input folks.

Pete Cyr.... I got your pm but forum won’t allow me to post or respond to pm’s until I become more active in posting here.
I live nearby, right off Crittenden Road, so we’re probably only 3-4miles apart by the way the crow flies.

I’ll give you a call this weekend and maybe we can get together after Christmas and talk cnc woes.
