Installing Aspire onto a computer without internet

Post by Soapyjoe »

Hi Everybody,

I am thinking about purchasing an additional, fairly basic, computer for my workshop.

I do no wish to have the internet on this machine.

I have the disks for version 8 but since loading these onto my main computer I have upgraded, first to 8.5 then 9 (via the internet)

How do I get version 9 onto a new computer without using the internet?

I am now quite slick at using Aspire but my basic computing knowledge is fairly basic ....

I think what I am saying .... Anyone kind enough to reply... PLEASE KEEP IT SIMPLE

Soapy

You need a computer that is connected to the internet but it doesn't need to be the one that you install Aspire on.

From your Vectric Portal account you can download the installation file for Aspire. Copy that onto the standalone machine by using a USB thumb drive or copying to a writeable CD/DVD.

You can then run that file (double click it) on the standalone machine to install it.

Thanks Adrian,

That does not sound too fierce ??

Trip to look at Black Friday machines next

I may, however, be back for further assistance

I must say I am always very impressed at the assistance freely, and very quickly, given by Forum members.

If you are buying a brand new machine for your workshop then it will come already set up to run on the internet. Almost impossible to buy a machine that isn't these days
If I were doing what you want to then I would connect the new machine to the internet, download directly any software that I wanted it to run then install that software, make sure it runs OK before disconecting the machine from the internet & moving it to your workshop
Any machine you buy now will have windows 10 installed & windows 10 comes with microsoft windows defender which is as good as just about any other anti virus software so you will be OK connecting to the internet without having to install other software

Hi.... Update on the worry about loading 9.5 onto a new machine for my workshop

I bought a new computer yesterday …. and, as Martin correctly wrote, I had to have one that is internet ready

With a few minor struggles I downloaded version 9.5 onto the new machine.

Not quite sure how to now block internet access on this machine !!

Disable the wifi adapter, or unplug the ethernet cable.

Right Click on the Wifi Icon in the taskbar, and select "Open Network and Internet Settings".

When a window opens, click on "Change Adapter Options". Another window will open.
Right Click on the Wifi Adapter, and click "Disable".

Personally, I think it's a good idea to keep Windows 10 PC's connected to the internet.
