Help with a big mistake
I am making a growth chart for my granddaughter that I have not seen in months, but am going to see on Friday. I was carving in her name and foot number this morning. Someone called while I was setting things up and I got distracted and did not realize the 60 degree V bit was still in the machine when it should have been the 90 degree. The tool path was set for .25 flat with a pass depth of .125. The attached pictures shows the results. Is there any way for me to fix this since I'm not going to have enough time to redo the project? Boy do I have my fingers cross on this one.

Re: Help with a big mistake
If everything is still clamped down and your X Y zero's are the same, I would put in the 90 deg and run it again and see what happens.....joe

Everything is still in place, but "see what happens" makes me a little nervous. Sounds like a complete roll of the dice.

Re: Help with a big mistake
I'm not doing anything at the moment...can you post the file as a .crv?
I'll try to duplicate a small example of a few letters using a 60, and then thinking maybe just plugging in a 60 into the toolpath will correct it(just with a larger flat area?)
IF you're trying to duplicate existing carvings...then it won't match:(
BUT maybe you could say you MADE it different because she's getting so BIG?
be happy to try, and post pics in BBPly.

Oh....can anyone identify the font...think I'll try just out of curiosity and guesstimate font size.

Re: Help with a big mistake
Should be mostly ok if you run the correct tool over the top. The bottom might have some grooving in it depending on stepovers etc but the bulk of the letter will be a lot better.
I've attached a couple of previews from an older version of VCarve where it was possible to get the preview to cut with the wrong tool to see what happens. The first picture is what you've done and the 2nd is from running the correct toolpath over the top.

What Joe said was precisely what I was going to tell you.cconway wrote:Everything is still in place, but "see what happens" makes me a little nervous. Sounds like a complete roll of the dice.
It will be fine, because the 90 degree cutter will cut more than the 60.
Adrian illustrated it.

This. You're golden, just run it again with the right bit.Leo wrote:What Joe said was precisely what I was going to tell you.cconway wrote:Everything is still in place, but "see what happens" makes me a little nervous. Sounds like a complete roll of the dice.

Re: Help with a big mistake
You can always go back into Vcarve and duplicate the tool path with what you actually ran. Then preview both the v60 and v90 paths together to see if you'll like it or want to adjust the v90 more.

Re: Help with a big mistake
Thank you to everyone for the advice. I truly appreciate it. I'm going to run the 90 degree over top and see how she looks.
