Question ..
I have a dish shape and I want to cut a V slot into it..
I'm using a 60 degree V-Bit and I have the "Project onto 3-D model" chosen.
Why is the slot not cutting across the entire selected closed vector ??
Any ideas ??
Michael

Re: VCarve Flatting out
I just gave it a try in 9.507 trial and it works as expected.
Perhaps a combination of dimensions or something like that.
Could you post your test file, Michael?

Re: VCarve Flatting out
Looks like it would go all the way through the material. Is there something preventing that?

Re: VCarve Flatting out
Is it a double sided job?
Just wondering if the spot not cutting is "intruding" on the back side?

Re: VCarve Flatting out
It constrains the toolpath to the depth of the model so if the toolpath would cut through the bottom of the dish you will get it flatting out like that.

Re: VCarve Flatting out
Michael,
I was able to duplicate the issue, if the bottom of the dish is closer to the thickness of the material than the depth of the VCarve toolpath then the VCarve toolpath will flatten out at the bottom of the material.
Hope this makes sense.

Re: VCarve Flatting out
Thanks folks for the reply's,
I must say that I did know why it happens, so I guess my question is "Why is it happening".
Pointing to the thickness of the material / depth of cutting , I would think with a V-Carve toolpath the vectors are the limiting factor, not the material..
Guess not..
Thanks again,
Michael

Re: VCarve Flatting out
Intriguing, normally on a v-carve toolpath if it is going to go too deep you get an error meassage about cutting through the material.
If you ignore the message it carves through the material and you see the hole and your background color.
Seems like it is something else. Don’t know what but it would be helpful if the Vectric crew jumped on this one.

Re: VCarve Flatting out
Without the 3D projection the vectors are the limiting factor. Add a 3D model into the equation and it's taking into account the model as well as part of the calculation. One of two ways it could work and it looks like Vectric chose the less destructive option.

Re: VCarve Flatting out
Adrian, your interpretation makes sense, but this behavior does not match the manual description.
The manual requires some complement regarding this case.Aspire manual wrote: Project toolpath onto 3D Model
This option is only available if a 3D model has been defined. If this option is checked, ✓ after the toolpath has been calculated, it will be projected (or 'dropped') down in Z onto the surface of the 3D model. The depth of the original toolpath below the surface of the material will be used as the projected depth below the surface of the model.
