Another Error in 9.5 that isn't in 9.0

Post by 4DThinker »

In the example 9.510 file, I've created a circular array of lines that were then trimmed by the outer circle. In 9.0 all those newly trimmed lines, zoomed in on, ended precisely on the circle. In 9.510 many don't reach the circle on inspection. I wanted to trim away the short circular section between every other radial line, but since many don't reach the circle I can't trim reliably.

9.510 file attached.

Hello,
Yes you are correct. I have duplicated that problem. It also happens in 9.015.. The little things can drive you crazy with these programs. Have a great day. Jimmy :)

It happens in 9.510, also.

Hi All,

I believe this has been an issue for as long as the trimming tool has been in place. There are two things at play here:

1. Trimming can potentially be done against a polygonization of the circle, so in this case it is not a completely accurate trim.
2. Drawing polygonizes the circle, so even if the trimming is completely accurate the drawing might display the gap.

We have these issues on our TODO list, but I don't believe that they represent regressions in 9.5.
Still, thanks for bringing it to our attention becomes sometimes these things are a reminder of what needs to be looked at.

Cheers,
Adam

I believe that a workaround is to first trim away the short circular lines, create a new circle the same size, trim away the extra length of the circular array, delete the new circle and then join the vectors,
You should be fine then.

Workarounds are a staple of the CNC jobs I do for my students. The trimming flaw wasn't fixed with 9.511, but at least they did restore the snapping to the shadow of a dragged shape to where it intersects existing lines. An honest thanks for that, Vectric. ;)
