Delete a side from a rectangle?

I sure hope this doesn;t sound too stupid, but if I draw a square or a rectangle, and want to delete one of the sides, making it an open line, how would I do so? I tried several times, and just cannot seem to figure out how to delete one of the sides...

Enter Node Editing mode hover over the vector segment to be deleted and press the "D" key.
