Ganesh Releif Model

Post by tim mck »

Is there anywhere anyone would recommend downloading a Ganesh STL relief model ? Needed for a job. Or if it is not too complicated to create the model myself if there are any tutorials etc you could recommend for the modelling. Thanks, Jack.

Have you looked in the usual places? thingyverse, yeggi which are free, turbo squid, 3Dmodelclub which are not?
I tried a quick google search & a lot seemed to pop up but don't know if any would be suitable

Check out Design & Make. They have a bunch and can be downloaded as a .stl

I didn't mention Design & Make because I tried a quick search & couldn't find anything. Just goes to show how rubbish I am with searches

I don’t see any Ganesh at Design & Make either. ( assuming it’s that elephant-looking figure)

Thanks for the feedback.. Just that I have noticed that when I have loaded in the STL files and made the image larger, there is a loss in the detail and quality. Is this something easy to fix or do I have to polish up on my modelling skills?
Thanks
Jack

At what stage are you resizing it? At the import stage or after you've imported it? Ideally you need to resize it at the import stage and all the usual caveats regarding material size and modelling resolution apply.

To add to Adrian’s post, enlarging a 3D relief model without also increasing the thickness, you will lose detail.

The Resize Tool has an option for resizing with or without a proportionate Z resizing. With it “on”, resizing a model larger or smaller will adjust the thickness proportionately and retain detail as originally designed.

With it “off” you must manually adjust the Z thickness yourself. There is often a compromise between model size (x y) and model thickness (z), that is made to accommodate a certain material thickness.

Along this same line, we are seeing a plethora of beautiful models posted everywhere on the internet. Often, they are very, very thick. They were not designed for typical low-relief use, and therefore detail will suffer when thickness is reduced to a more practical carving depth.

Now, because Aspire does have modeling tools, you can enhance detail manually using the Sculpting Tools. Your proficiency with those tools will determine how successful you are in “adding back” lost details.
