Joining vectors - need help

I am trying to Join the Hand Plane vectors in the attached file but am not having success. Does anyone see the problem as to why the Vectors will not Join?

You can only join them at their ends, so if the ends don't meet, you can't joint them.
Why do you need to joint them?

What vectors are you trying to join?

What is your vision for the final to look like?

Depending on what you want, you may not need to join the vectors. The image below was made by choosing Profile ON the vectors with a 90 degree V bit at 1/16" depth of cut.

When I go to the tool path and select the object to v-carve I get the msg "29 open vectors were identified in the selection and are being ignored. There are 5 remaining vectors" When I run the calculate it only picks the 5 vectors to carve.

Randall, I cannot get it to cut the v-carve you posted.

John, my vision was to have a 3D carving of the hand plane raised in the oval area. I am new to the 3D and Aspire. Don't hold it against me, I was a MasterCam user and am enjoying Aspire now. Many tutorials to watch and learn.

Don't use the V-Carve toolpath. Use the profile toolpath set to be On the vector.

Greg,
I can't hold being new against anyone. I'm learning new stuff all the time, that's part of the fun.

Here's a little bit of a different approach. You have Aspire, use it....

This is just a down and dirty model.

In my post above I included the Aspire file so you can download it and see my toolpath.

You're not going to be able to V Carve that without extensive vector editing. But I don't think you really would want to V Carve it, as it probably wouldn't look very good.

Thanks Everyone. Yes, Adrian, I just tried the V carve with the Profile 'On' the object line and it worked. So I am able to V carve the plane as Randall did.
John, the 3D that you did is what I had in mind. Then you 'tricked out' Randall's V carve. That's cool also. Did you offset the outside profile to get the bevel cut around the plane and inside the handle area? Would you mind sharing your files so I can see what you did? Are there any specific Vectric Tutorials that would explain what you did? I have viewed a few but have not been successful in what you did.

Greg, on Randall's V-Carve I created a copy of the original plane then deleted all the vectors not part of the outline, then using the welding tools an node editing I created a closed vector outline. I used the offset tool to move the outline 1/4" out.

For the 2.5D model I searched for a picture of a plane similar to the one in your project.
wood plane.png
After some Photoshop work I used Create component from selected or imported bitmap Modeling tool to create a component of the plane. After some smoothing and Sculpting I had a rough component to use. Needs more tweaking, but it's a start...

Go to the Vectric's website and start working through the tutorials.

Thanks John. I downloaded the files and will work with them. Can a Create Component be created from a vector dwg as the hand plane was drawn or does it have to come from a bitmap? I've tried a few of the Create Component icons but to no avail. I will review the tutorials.

Greg,

Create a component from a selected or imported bitmap pretty much says it all. You can only use a bitmap image to create a component.

Now, what you could do is save the plane as a bitmap then use the Create a component from a selected or imported bitmap tool.
