Bits

Post by cconway »

I have a Shark HD with an extended bed and I'm running a water cooled spindled. The spindle is great since I don't have the noise of a router, but I am limited to 1/4" shank bits. I was wondering if anyone is aware of any company making a 1/2" end mill and a 1/2 ball nose on a 1/4" shank.

Thanks!

What collet does the spindle use, ER20, ER25 etc? You should be able to get collets in any size you want to suit any shank. I have them in 1mm right up to 16mm for my spindle.

He maybe on ER11 which goes to 1/4
You can find larger tooling dia on 1/4 shank from Amana, mostly in their straight plunge CT tools

Yep, just looked it up. The Shark HD4 comes with a little ER11 collet.

Just use carbide tipped straight bits and corebox bits. You can get a variety of sizes with 1/4" shanks.

CMT has some choices in bits with 1/4 shanks. Here are just a few
811.127.11 1/2" diameter, 3/4" cutting edge
812.127.11 1/2" diameter, 1-1/4" cutting edge
814.160.11 5/8" diameter round nose
858.001.11 1/2" diameter 60 degree V bit
815.127.11 1/2" diameter 90 degree V bit
851.002.11 3/4" diameter bowl & tray
