Hi Everybody,
I am attempting to machine some domes from oak.
I wonder what have other member of this forum found to be the best depth and step over settings to produce the above ?
I am constructing 50 mm per side Pentagons shaped into spherical domes to a depth of around 14 mm.
At the moment I am finding the roughing tool far too slow and the finishing tool too quick... obviously I need to increase the setting on the roughing tool and decrease the setting of the finishing tool ..... but I do wonder by how much?
I am, at present, using a 6 mm diameter slot drill for the roughing and a 6 mm bull nosed tool for the finishing..... the finish leaves a lot to be desired.
Your recommendations would be very appreciated.

For the finish tool a stepover of 2mm on a 6mm tool is way too big. You need 8 to 10% of the tool diameter so 0.48 to 0.6mm would be much better.
