Inlaying pocket into a domed shape

Post by Soapyjoe »

Hi Everybody,

I have been struggling all morning attempting to inlay a pocket into a domed shape.

Let's say, for instance, pocket out a small triangular shape into a domed circular disk.

I can make the domed circular disk (easy enough) via the modelling tools.. but combining the inlayed pocket is giving me a lot of grief.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Dear Soapyjoe

Two toolpaths, one pocket and one 3D dome?

You could try putting the pocket in first, before you machine the dome. That way you have your top surface reference point.

In fact once you have these drawn - if you use table surface as your zero, it would not matter which order you machine them.

Hope this helps
Sincerely and in good faith
Martin

Thanks Martin,

But will this method fit the triangle following the contours of the dome?.... ie ...the inlay at the same depth in the centre of the dome as the edges.

It will do as you asked if you choose the "Project Toolpath onto 3-D Model" option..
