3D Models (STL) and Toolpaths

Post by cncpadawan »

Hello,

I have a LED base that I have designed in CAD, and want to use my CNC router to cut it out. It is pretty simple, a few pockets and a profile, however it seems that with a model the only thing I can do is a 3D roughing or finishing pass. Is there a way that I can get a bit more control and select the areas I want to pocket, etc? I know other software has that capability, so I am wondering if there is a way to do that in Aspire too. I am using Aspire 9.0.

Thanks in advance!

Use vectors rather than an STL model. If you use a 3D model you're restricted to 3D toolpaths. Export as vectors (DXF,EPS,AI etc) from your CAD package and you will be able to use profile and pocket toolpaths.
