Hello,
I am trying to figure out how to make a carving using the v carve option but haven't been able to learn how to set up boundaries. I attached what I am trying to carve. Basically the red areas I an trying to carve out with a v bit, while leaving the surrounding non red ares uncarved. How should I go about doing this? Any help or direction is greatly appreciated!

Have you watched any of the tutorials on how v carving works?

Hello,
Yes, I did watch through them. I don't recall one going over this, but I did it over a few months. If there is one that addresses it could you let me know which one and I will happily watch it. Thanks for your help.

Well, the first step would be make sure they're vectors importable into Aspire. The second step would be to actually import them into Aspire. From then on it should be a snap to do this.

Simply put, you select the vectors you want to carve in between.

Re: Help with V Carve boundaries and settings
Terminology here may be playing a part, the vcarve toolpath is quite specific on what it does & from looking at the picture you have attached I don't think that is what you are trying to do.
Are you just trying to clear out where the red markings are & if so is there a particular reason why you want to just machine those areas ?
Sorry but I am not 100% clear on what you are trying to achieve & why

Re: Help with V Carve boundaries and settings
As I engraved it some weeks ago on PMMA, giving v-carving a try was very quick (it's reverted because I engraved the back of the PMMA).
As Martin wrote, I'm not sure V-Carving is what you want.
Ted has summed up V-carve principle in a few words.
Search the forum for more explanations. I remember somebody posted a very good schematic diagram.

Here is the result with a pocket toolpath.
It's straightforward if you have clean vectors: closed and without overlaps.

Re: Help with V Carve boundaries and settings
If it is carving the wrong areas, select the outermost vector and offset it outward, so you have a new outer bounding vector (but keeping the original vector). Select all your vectors and V-carve. With that new outer vector added to your selection, your carve will reverse what is cut.Basically the red areas I an trying to carve out with a v bit, while leaving the surrounding non red ares uncarved.
BTW, you probably need a cleaner original. Your vectors look a little crude.
