Offsetting/widening a group of circles in an oval

Post by ikessky »

I've got an oval cribbage board design that I really like, but after test playing, I find that the holes in each run are too close to the other player. What I would like to do is simply offset all the holes in each of the three ovals. I'm sure there's a way to do this, but I cannot seem to do anything more than increase the size of the holes.

Could you post your file?

Not knowing how it has been built, it's difficult to give a relevant answer.
Best regards

The file was actually obtained from this board, but I've attached it as I'm using it

Instead of offsetting, which will only make a circle smaller or larger, try the array.

I'm assuming you want each oval pattern of holes to be separated by a larger distance.

How I might do it:

Select all of the holes. Use the Set Selected Object size to enlarge the pattern so the holes are the desired distance apart. This will also enlarge the holes. Move the holes to second layer.

Turn on a third layer. Use the Offset tool to get another set of holes that are the original size. Delete the second layer. Or you can use the circle resize gadget to resize them back to the original size.

One can also move each oval row of holes to a separate layer if you wish to work with them independently.
Good judgement comes from experience.
Experience comes from bad judgement.

Here's what I ended up doing. Might not have been the quickest, but I guess it made it happen!

1. Resize the most outward grouping to 100.43%
2. Resize the most inward grouping by 99.57%
3. Offset the boarder around all the hole groupings
4. Use the extend function to close the lines that group things by fives
