Modeling help

Post by Beltramidave »

Can someone tell me if it possible to model this in Aspire. New at modeling so could use some help. I have created this before (but not as a model), but I had to rotate the part to accomplish both the side and top down profile. Would like to be able to machine without having to rotate as re positioning correctly was an issue. Thanks

Don't see how you're going to get the undercut without flipping the material weather you model it or use the Moulding toolpath.

If you don't mind finishing the bottom curve on a sander you can use the moulding toolpath to get the top part.

Thanks John. I played with the moulding toolpath, but couldn't figure it out. Can you explain in simple terms how you accomplished that, please?
Attached are my results in pink foam. Was hoping to get a sharper point on the front and rear.

Thank you John for the file. It makes more sense now that I can see it toolpathed. I wasn't even close with my moulding try..

Happy to help.

The great thing about VCP & Aspire are there are lots of ways to skin a cat. I'm sure others will show you much better ways. This was just a quick down and dirty try. Some additional refinements would help.

Nice approach John,,,
Just to expand upon your design I chose to use the entire top vector of the canoe as the molding profile.
The the pocket and cutout as you have.
Three toolpaths...

Just another way...poor cat..

Thanks Michael (and John). Always good when you can eliminate a toolpath to accomplish something.
