How to created 3D model of this

Post by 01f4irider »

I'm looking for tips on how someone would create a 3d model of this wedding dish. Any replies are much appreciated.

If you want to carve this out of wood then I would not do it as a 3D model. This could be machined much faster using 2D and v carve toolpaths

A two rail sweep, some V-carving, and two dimples will do it.

Making something along the lines of this for my daughters wedding. Wondering how you made the 2 "dimples"?

Other than the V-Carved item and the heart in the center, the entire piece could be cut using the molding toolpath..
One molding toolpath for the entire shape and another for the two "dimples"

Thanks, got most of that down. I was wondering about the dimples because I don't see a rail for them for a moulding toolpath, so wasn't sure what method was being use.

Walt,
You could use a moulding toolpath to create the dimples, there would be a little clean up at the bottom or you could use the fluting toolpath with a bunch of vectors. The third option that I can think of is two files to create the necessary toolpaths, one to do everything but the dimples and the second just the dimples using a dome model.

Thanks John! I've got everything laid out for the my project, which is the "heart bowl" topic elsewhere in the VCP forum. I just saw this and thought the dimples might be a nice little addition. Running short on time (1 month) so I may have to leave those off. Will see how much I can cram into this short time span.

Mike, thanks! I really only needed info on the dimples though. I have my project all laid out and as mentioned above, thought the dimples might be a nice little addition. I appreciate your efforts though! Thank you.
