Our Pastor wanted two Crosses one for each side of the Church Sanctuary. They wanted them 4 foot high by about 3 foot wide on the cross member.
We decided to texture the Crosses to look more like bark which added quite a bit of run time but they came out nice.
We used glazing to get the effect we wanted. The wood we used was Blood wood. It ready carves nice but does splinter a bit if you’re not careful on the cutout.
Size 48” high by 36” wide on the cross member, the width of the Cross itself was 10”.

Re: Large Crosses
Very nice and big. I have several pieces of blood wood in my stash but am pretty stingy with it. Not sure why when it needs to be used in a project such as yours.

As far as the use of Blood wood I thought it was a n obvious choice for the Cross. I have a great supplier for the wood but it is expensive.
Thank you Michael, I love making things for the Church.

Thise are fantastic, Mark. I love the color contrast between the Cross and the Bible.

Re: Large Crosses
Thank you Michael. I actually decided to do the texturing after looking at you last project of the month. The glazing really made the texture stand out and by not texturing the cutouts made them stand out.mtylerfl wrote:Thise are fantastic, Mark. I love the color contrast between the Cross and the Bible.
The Crosses needed to be lager enough to be seen in the back of the Church.
Again your projects of the month are a great inspiration.
