I was going to measure my crackers, then I saw the cheese. So much for that plan!

Re: Ritz cracker channel in rectangular wood
Almost all bowl bits have a profile at the bottom. Otherwise one could just use an end mill. You can also use a core box, bull nose, plunge cove etc. In this case I designed my own bit. It really doesn't matter what bit or profile you use if it's going to be cut as 3D but using a toolpath and cutting it 2D will greatly reduce the carving time. Magnate.com has some interesting profile bits but they are a bit pricey.

I'm going to try the moulding toolpath first. Do I use the 3D post processor or the regular one?

Just for grins, here's my offering in the Ritz cracker box. Using the moulding toolpath.

Are you going to post the files, so we can see how it is done by an expert?highpockets wrote:Just for grins, here's my offering in the Ritz cracker box. Using the moulding toolpath.

Re: Ritz cracker channel in rectangular wood
I'm trying but it won't post the picture. I ended up doing a molding toolpath. Towards the end of the cut one of my water lines exploded and blasted boiling water all over the project. Scared the crap out of me. Sounded like a .22 going off near my ear. Took two hours for the spindle to cool off enough for me to take it off the CNC. Shut everything down but now I don't know what to do. Upgrade to an air cooled spindle, get a whole new inverter and spindle or what. Getting a Dropbox account. Picture wasn't that big.

This is the cracker thingie and my broken spindle.

This is the cracker thingie with a very strange commissioned cheese board. The cheese board has inlays all around, Alabama, Indiana, Michigan and North Carolina. I don't ask why...I just pocket the money. It's 6 1/2 inches square and 4" tall.

Re: Ritz cracker channel in rectangular wood
Highpockets, That's what I want to do on the next one. I haven't quite gotten the hang of the 3D stuff yet. Only had Aspire since the income tax refund
Any way you'd share the carve files with me so I can see how they compare to what I actually did? I think the way I did it with the end grain two tone wood looked pretty good. But if I ever make one for myself I prefer your style.

Mike, I would appreciate it if you wouldn't call me names...FixitMike wrote:Are you going to post the files, so we can see how it is done by an expert?highpockets wrote:Just for grins, here's my offering in the Ritz cracker box. Using the moulding toolpath.
I just did it as an experiment didn't figure on posting the file. The groove and length are estimates, no Ritz crackers in the house .

Barbara,
There's absolutely nothing wrong with your design. I like the two tone wood idea also, adds a nice touch to the project.

Re: Ritz cracker channel in rectangular wood
John, sorry about the name calling. I should have said "Supreme Expert".
I loaded your.crv3d file into a trial copy of Aspire and saved it as a .crv file. I then opened it on my copy of VCarve Pro, and resaved it so it could be opened by others. Here it is for those lowly people like me who only have VCarve Pro and want to see a successful application of the moulding toolpath to cut a cavity.

Thanks for your help Mike. Since upgrading to Aspire my VCP has gone by the wayside.FixitMike wrote: I loaded your.crv3d file into a trial copy of Aspire and saved it as a .crv file.
