Need some help cutting an angled moulding toolpath
Im trying to cut a beveled edge around a 5 sided polygon, completely through the material, effectively mitering the edges for assembly as a dodecahedron. The bevel angle on a mitersaw is 31.7 degrees but every time i try to input this measurement as a moulding profile the angle comes out incorrect at around 28 degrees.
i could adjust until i hit the correct angle but....i would really like to know what im doing wrong. lol
thanks in advance for any advice.

More accurately it should be 31.75 degrees for a dodecahedron. Your vector in the 2nd attachment looks good: (180-116.4)/2 = 31.7 degrees.
Where specifically do you see this 28 degrees that you mentioned?

The actual workpiece comes out at 28 degrees, i dont know where the disconnect is.

Also, is there an easier or more efficient way to perform this type of cut?

Besides with a tablesaw and a vertical sled to ride along the fence?Buildcraft wrote:Also, is there an easier or more efficient way to perform this type of cut?
By using a ball-end bit there'll be a "flare" at the bottom of your stock. Is your angle measurement adjusting for this?

Im going a little deeper into the spoilboard to cut past the rounded ballnose profile. The entire angle is off though, shouldnt this be exact as the program transfers the angle exactly from screen to machine?

I'm sure it won't make make any difference to your problem but... there's a later version of Aspire to the version you are running...9.014

Have you checked your router bit geometry? in the tool data base. is it described correct?

Re: Need some help cutting an angled moulding toolpath
Do you want the actual angle on the moulding toolpath to be 31.7 degrees from the top surface to the bottom surface? If so your profile is wrong, it's way too steep. It would need to be 31.7 degrees from the horizontal.

Hello Adrian,
For building a dodecahedron that profile should be fine (see image)

How are you accomplishing that? Could it be that the extra depth is affecting things?Buildcraft wrote:Im going a little deeper into the spoilboard to cut past the rounded ballnose profile.

Re: Need some help cutting an angled moulding toolpath
Well I'm no geometry expert but I don't see that the original pictures show the correct angles. To me the angle being used is 26.63 degrees not 31.75.
