Quick Engrave - Feature request

Post by Mogal »

Oddly enough I have just stumbled across Quick engrave today! and I like it!
(I never had a reason to use it before now)

So I was coming up with a couple different designs to do, The hatch/cross hatch is great.
Any chance of getting a 'Radial' feature? Kinda like a starburst from the center.
(But then restricted by an inner/outer perimeter)

Think of the function 'Circular Copy' with a 'rotation center'

It would have been nice to do in this example. to have the boarder engraved oriented (inline) around a center point.
Like in the second pic.

Make sense?
Thanks for any consideration!

Have you tried using varying bit diameters and stepovers with the "Pocket" tool? The Offset option may be what you want

I know it's not automatic, but engrave the second picture.

Cutting the second one is fine and dandy... although, 5 times longer to cut(drag) not to mention the time to create the vectors.
its two minutes for the first example, and 10 for the second.

Dunno how hard it would be to create a gadget?... Never tried, I'll look into it!!

One problem with making a gadget that will engrave a radial array is that the lines will be touching at the center and possibly too far apart at the outer ends. It will be difficult to make a pattern that will satisfy most of the users.

For the second example, just draw the circular array and trim with the "Trim-trim selected objects to last selected object" tool to the inner and outer vectors.
Good judgement comes from experience.
Experience comes from bad judgement.
