Not sure whats going on but I received a vector file from a client and it was created with adobe illustrator. She sent it to me as a DXF file. I tried to connect the vectors in auto cad but it seems like there on different layers or something as there is no snap function does not work. I also tried connecting the vectors in aspire and that doesn't work ....anyone have any ideas ?
Thanks, Paul

Re: Illustrator to DXF import Help
All sorts of possibilities. Attach the DXF and it will be sorted out.
For future reference, ask what version DXF is being generated. Vectric products "like" R12 and AutoCad 2014 DXF formats.
Don't bother with trying to connect in AutoCad. Just import the DXF into the Vectric software and do your editing/connecting there.
If you are using version 9 Vectric software, the vector validator tool will identify problems and help a LOT if the DXF file is funky.

Re: Illustrator to DXF import Help
Two things I can think of:
1. get the client to select all vectors and then select Object -> Compound Path -> Release
2. get the client to send you the Illustrator AI file instead of a DXF file if you're pulling it into Aspire anyway
"like they're on" or "like they are on" not "like there on"

Re: Illustrator to DXF import Help
Good idea trying importing the Ai file directly. Should have mentioned that myself.

Re: Illustrator to DXF import Help
I like to keep as close to the source format as possible to avoid downsampling issues---AI over exporting to DXF or DWG; Rhino 3DM over STL or OBJ. Of course, this depends on the ability of the receiving software to handle the native format properly.
The tricky one is a Solidworks part. It's best to save as IGS (or IGES) then load into Rhino then send the 3DM file to the Vectric products.

Re: Illustrator to DXF import Help
Be interested to see the file. There shouldn't be any reason why you couldn't join the vectors in Aspire. How were you trying to do it?
