3d Maps new app. Touch Terrain

Postby AJF » Wed Jan 10, 2018 4:31 am

I came across this program put together by some people at Iowa State University that creates 3d printable terrain models. Though it is designed for 3d printers, the STL file it produces can be imported in to Aspire.

Thanks!
Looks like it's worth playing with:)
Have you tried it for your location? I know you were having resolution problems with some.

The SRTM data does not cover North of 60 but the GMTEP as well as the ETOPOI does. So for large scale maps the app. it is useful. For higher detail, I still need to use another method to create the maps from DEM files. The thing I found useful in the this app is the sizable selection box. Also if you read their instructional information you can setup a stand alone version of the app running on PYTHON.

Thanks:)
I LIKE that box:)
I managed to get from Montana to Maine in less than a minute without entering ANY data :)
I guess I pushed the detail a little too much on the first try though:(
Super high detail and almost half the State of Maine
