Helicopter Model

Postby davekenyon » Sat Dec 02, 2017 1:57 pm

Hi,

I'm looking to cut a 3D model of a helicopter into the top of some oval boxes, similar to what is achieved with a crab here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dh6K0XB1c1A

The problem I have is that, in any of the views of the 3D model that I'd like to cut, there's too much variation in Z. The result being that when I flatten the Z down to 8mm, there's too much of the model proud of the surface. I suppose what I'm really after is less of a 3D effect, and more of an embossed effect. Is this possible?

Additionally, is there an easy way to create a final V-carve toolpath to highlight some of the finer details if it's needed (eg edges of the windows)?

Many thanks.

Have you tried the Emboss Component tool (last icon on the third row of modelling tools)? It's designed for just that situation. Sounds like you might have been reducing the z height directly.
