3d model pixels

Post by juan »

Hello all,

Can someone tell me if i`m doing someting wrong? or is it just no other way??

As you can see the 3d model is not following the line and very must pixels, de nodes are smooth.
Do i miss a thing here?

thanks in advance!

this is what you get when you go printing ;-)

hoped to get smoother lines.....

One thing that would help is to increase the model resolution as you set up you job.

Computers cannot draw curved lines. They can only draw straight lines between the pixels on the screen. The closer the pixels are together the smoother the "curve" will appear. That's why increasing the model resolution will help.

the picture you posted looks more like a simple pocket or profile cut than a 3-D model.
If so, the profile toolpath would result in smoother edges.
Can we see more of the project in order to offer other possible solutions ?

The other thing which is important besides the resolution of the job is the size of the shape compared to the material size. If you define the material as the size of the cutting surface and then create the model as a small piece in one corner you're "wasting" all the pixels on empty space and will get a poor result.

I agree with Michael about what we can see from your pictures though. It doesn't look at all like a 3D job.

If I understand correctly, you are using Aspire to make an extrusion of a 2D drawing and export it as a stl to print it in 3D. Right?

Follow the previous advices and set a high resolution when you export the model.

But Aspire may not be the best tool for that, with its pixel based principle. I'd use a more conventional CAD system to extrude a 2D curve then export to STL.

I think there are small apps that can extrude a 2D for 3D printing, but I don't remember their names.
Best regards

That`s right guys,

It`s a 2d drawing, then I extrude the vectors in the modeling tab, then shape from vectors.

It`s really simply but not smooth ;-)

And are you 3D printing it or cutting out on a CNC?

I make cookie stamps so that`s cnc and some costumers want a cookie cutter in the shape off the stamp and that is 3D printing
