I am trying to cut a 5/8" wide cut using a 3/8" bit with the dado gadget. I cant find a way to do this other than using a 5/8" bit. If I use the pocket tool path I can do it.
Has anyone ever tried this? Thanks so much.

Re: dado gadget
Don't use the gadget, but as a cabinetmaker I have cut thousands of them. Use an inside profile of a rectangle. The rectangle should be your required dado dimension for its width, and if going completely across the part a bit diameter larger than the part for length. Use a bit that is greater than half of your dado width to cut, so that you don't need to pocket, which will involve extra machining.

Re: dado gadget
I wrote the gadget to make it easier for people who were taking designs drawn with dados as rectangle so they could machine them with a bit of the same with a simple profile toolpath. If the bit you're using is smaller than the dado width then you have to use a pocket toolpath or the method Gary suggests.
