V9 turn icon

Postby sawmiller » Sun Sep 03, 2017 9:20 pm

been poking around V9 a lil, and had this thought, the turn and spin seems a shoein for the rotary work.
but as far as i can see you would have to create a silhouette, turn the spindle, export as stl, unwrap, then use that for a wrapped job.
is there a easier way to go from turn to rotary?

Sawmiller,
How about the Molding Toolpath..
Create a wrapped job.
Create your profile shape.
Use the drive rail in the Molding toolpath.
Cut it.

It is much better than the turn option as this does not create a component which is affected but the quality of the pixels...

The first attached picture ( Long Spindle ) was made using the molding toolpath tool and the fluting toolpath tool.
The second is just the molding toolpath tool.

Michael,

I'm a bit old and slow on the new stuff but I have been able to create some turned items on my lathe/indexer the normal way. I was wondering if you would mind posting the file on the above so I could try to figure out how you accomplished your turned spindle using the moulding toolpath?

Sure Joe,
Here's a quick example of the molding toolpath to create a turned item...

The one thing many people get incorrect is that the profile works when it is in the horizontal position......
So, I usually draw the profiles in the vertical,to check for correctness and then rotate then to the horizontal.

Let me know if it works for you.

Michael,

That helps, Thanks for the example.

One more question, how did you do the spiral with the moulding toolpath?

Opps, I just reread your post, you use the fluting toolpath. Would you mind showing that example too please.

I have a sizable job to finish this week but after that I want to start playing with my indexer some more.

Joe,
The fluting toolpath is a gadget that you'll need to install.
http://gadgets.vectric.com/V9/fluter.html

And the best way to explain it would be to listen to the Master Himself,,James Booth
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LIs6YCB5O4

Or better yet,,take a look at the Help Manual and check for " Wrapped Fluting Layout"
