Hi Bill,

Perhaps I can add a little more clarification regarding the problem you are having...

- You are trying to run the free Tree Face Vectric project: http://www.vectric.com/cool-stuff/proje ... -face.html

- The project is set with the Z-zero at the top of the 0.75"-thick material. When you attempt to run the project at your machine, you receive the soft limit error and cannot run the project.

Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions for Bill why he is having this problem?

Hi,

I think maybe you have a problem of understanding the difference between machine coordinates and workpiece coordinates. If you set Z0 to the top of the material, it should correspond to a negative Z value of the machine coordinate. Z0 of your machine should be at the highest position your router can reach.
Where is your machine origin in X, Y, Z?

Make sure that Z1, Z2 and Home Z positions in the Material Setup are sensible for your machine. If your machine can only move, for example, 2" upwards when set at the top of the material you don't want any of those values to be more than 2" at the absolute maximum.

Are you trying to cut this using the files supplied by Michael or have you toolpathed it yourself so it is suitable for your machine?
If I were to try & cut this job on my machine using Michael's set up & toolpathing I would get an error as well.

My machine has a max z travel of about 2" If I were to use Michael's figures where his home position is set 1.8" above the material surface then with 0.75" my z axis would exceed the maximum travel

If you don't have a Z axis home switch, turn off your Z axis Softlimits.
If you do have a Z axis home switch, are you homing the Z axis before setting Z zero?

Hi Bill

Adrian and Martin bring up a very good point about double checking that all the material and toolpath settings are suitable for your machine.

Try changing the Home Z to an amount smaller than 1.8" (an amount you are sure won't exceed the Z limit of your machine).
