Roundover form tool slow motion speed

Post by mwloyd »

I created a form tool profile for Amana 49700 R1/4 Roundover bit. Preview looks good but when I went to make the cut it was so slow you could not tell it was moving, so I checked the toolpath time and it said 4 hours. I changed the tool to an end mill, but used the roundover and it cut in minutes. I have attached a screen shot. The feed and speed is manual on my machine. I attached a screenshot (I think...I can't tell). The profile size is .375 but the tool spec shows .7501 diameter.

At 0.24 inches per minute the plunge rate way way too slow. That explains the long time estimate.

Regarding the tool diameter, you probably drew the vector twice as wide as needed.

The vector is the right half and size is .375 x .375". The plunge rate was the culprit.
