Hummingbird vector

Post by mac »

Where can I download the Hummingbird vector used in the DO7 tutorial? It is one of the best vectors I have come across.

Thanks Martin. I have the file downloaded, how do I extract the vector from the file? I wish we had some dark/black wood available in Australia. I use Red Cedar (Toona Ciliata) as my inlay material with either Camphor laurel or Hoop Pine as the background. The cedar is very soft and tends to be very brittle. It is a pretty timber, though.

The CRV files within the ZIP file that you have downloaded are the vectors.

If you cant get a dark enough wood then what about using a stain ?
It's not something I have tried myself but I have seen some fantastic work using stains.

Thank you for the replies, gentlemen. I must have had a brain fade. (old age problem) I have thought about using a stain to darken the inlay but haven't tried it yet. Most of the Australian "cabinet" timbers are available but are very expensive. The Red Cedar and Hoop Pine I use come from my family property in Northern NSW, luckily. Red Cedar costs at least A$7,000 per cubic metre! Camphor Laurel is a pest species here but milled timber is also very expensive. Some of the hardwoods have very nice grain patterns, we are thinking about buying a bandsaw mill and milling some of the timber on the property.
Thank you again, gents. Mac
